Tonight: Revised Wellington Athletic Complex Plan to Be Presented at County Meeting Thursday

A newly-revised Wellington master plan drawing will be shown at the meeting Jan. 31. Intersection improvements in the area will also be discussed.

Snohomish County is inviting the public to the fifth Wellington Hills Master Planning meeting Thursday evening at Brightwater Education Center.

At the meeting, a newly-revised master plan for the athletic complex will be shown and officials will discuss the roadway improvement project associated with the complex.

Those involved with Neighbors to Save Wellington Park, a group that wants to preserve the park, said in an email Tuesday that the plan is "not a done deal," and encouraged all who can to attend the Thursday meeting.

The county's public works employees will design roadway improvements along 240th St SE, which is located east of Snohomish-Woodinville Road and leads to the future Wellington Hills park. According to the county's webpage about the project:

Originally, public works planned to design only a sidewalk along 240th St. SE. In response to public comments, we are adding improvements to our original proposal.

West of the park entrance, Snohomish County Public Works plans to add a new, 5-foot-wide sidewalk between Snohomish-Woodinville Road and the top of the hill on 240th St SE. Public works also will widen the road to include 12- to 14-foot wide lanes and will add a left-turn lane on 240th St SE at the intersection of Snohomish-Woodinville Road.

The Parks Department plans to build a roundabout at the park entrance, which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross 240th St. SE. In response to public comments, Public Works will add two speed humps across 240th St. SE - one between the roundabout and 71st Ave. SE and another between 71st Ave. SE and 75th Ave. SE. Crews will also build a raised, tabletop intersection at 71st Ave. SE to slow traffic and allow pedestrians to safely cross the street.

Construction schedule

Public Works expects to complete design of the roadway improvements in 2013, and will begin construction in 2014. As an interim measure to slow traffic on 240th St. SE, crews will install two solar-powered speed signs between the top of the hill at 75th Ave. SE.
