Volunteers Needed for Sammamish River Trail

Celebrate Earth Day by helping preserve the health of the Sammamish River ecosystem.

On Saturday, April 16, in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day, the City of Woodinville will be hosting a tree planting and restoration event to benefit the Sammamish River. Events will take place along the from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Restoration efforts will go towards removing non-native vegetation, which helps ensure that native plants are able to thrive along the banks of the river.

At 10 a.m., join the City for the Tree City USA award ceremony, where the City will accept a Tree City USA banner and plaque to commemorate Woodinville's 15th year as a Tree City. The award provides national recognition for Woodinville’s commitment to sustaining a viable tree management plan and program. The Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters sponsors Tree City USA.

After the ceremony, volunteers are invited to help in planting trees and removing non-native vegetation along the Sammamish River Trail. Signs will be posted along to help identify the project site. Parking for the event will be in the Wilmot Gateway Park parking lot and across the street near City Hall. This volunteer opportunity is great for families, groups, and individuals. Volunteers are asked to bring their own tools (loppers), and gloves; as the city only has a limited supply of tools available.
