Dembowski was appointed to the council seat in February, replacing Councilman Bob Ferguson, who was elected state attorney general. The November election will determine who fills out the one month left of Ferguson’s term in 2013 and the next four-year term that starts in January.

The District 1 seat represents north King County, including part of Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Woodinville, Bothell and the north part of Kirkland.

Meanwhile, the race for a seat on the Northshore School District Board is shaping up to be a contest between incumbent Julia Lacey and challenger Kimberly D'Angelo.

Lacey was running away with the lead in District 1, with nearly 50 percent of the vote Tuesday night. D'Angelo followed with 31.5 percent and Marci Cheesebrough had just over 18 percent.

King County Elections will release more vote totals Wednesday afternoon.
