NSD's O'Keeffe Washington History Day 2011 Administrator of the Year

Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Carolyn O'Keeffe, Ph.D., as the 2011 Jim Kierfert Administrator of the Year

The Washington State Historical Society has selected Northshore School District (NSD) Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Carolyn O’Keeffe, Ph.D., as the 2011 Jim Kierfert Administrator of the Year. The award recognizes the contributions and continuing support of teachers and students who participate in History Day. She will be recognized at the state contest awards ceremony on Saturday, May 7, 6 p.m., at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington.

O’Keeffe was nominated by NSD teachers Dori Wuepper and Paula Cautrell. They noted in their nomination that her support of History Day has raised the bar for student achievement throughout the district. This year, 28 NSD students will present 23 History Day projects at the state competition.

National History Day is a nationally acclaimed history education program that challenges students to become historians, explorers, investigators and leaders. Students choose a topic that relates to an annual theme, then conduct extensive research using primary sources, articles and books, interviews with experts and eyewitnesses, and many other resources. They analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about their topic’s historical significance, and present their work in project form as an exhibit, documentary, performance, paper or website.
