NSEA to Vote on New Teacher Contract and 2011-2012 Calendar

In wake of state budget cuts, Northshore Education Association votes on new contract.

The Northshore Education Association (NSEA) membership will meet at Bothell High School gym Wednesday at 4 p.m. to vote on the tentative contract agreement with the Northshore School District. In a statement on the NSEA blog last Friday the NSEA bargaining team said specific details would not be released until the meeting.

The contract agreement is tentative until the NSEA members and the school board approve it. The 2011-2012 school calendar will also be voted on and will be posted online Thursday following the meeting.

This new contract calls for changes affecting work expectations, compensation and decision making. At the meeting, NSEA members will have the opportunity to ask the bargaining team about the new contract. The 2008-2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is 188 pages. With state proposed salary cuts, and possible concessions, the 2011 CBA is expected be more complex.

As reported on the school district could face state funding cuts of up to $3.8 million, the NSEA bargaining team said they had to make difficult decisions in the negotiation process, but said in the statement that ultimately, the decision to approve the contract is up to the members.
