Situation: The WIAA switched things up this year with the state basketball playoff format, switching from the old 16-team, four-day Tacoma Dome event to one that features four different regional rounds followed by a round of eight the following weekend at the T-Dome.

Each regional site will feature four teams (the Inglemoor regional site will host Woodinville, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Tahoma and Monroe), two of which will advance to the round of eight. Every regional will have one automatic advance game and one loser-out game on Friday. The winner of the loser-out game will then play the loser of the automatic advance game on Saturday for the final spot in the round of eight from the regional. For example, Mt. Tahoma and Monroe play in the loser-out game of the Inglemoor region on Friday, while Woodinville and Mt. Rainier play in the automatic advance game. The winner of the Mt. Tahoma and Monroe game will advance to play Saturday, while the loser will be eliminated. The winner of the Woodinville/Mt. Rainier game automatically advances to the round of eight at the Tacoma Dome, while the loser plays the winner of the Mt. Tahoma/Monroe game on Saturday for the final spot in the round of eight out of the region.

Teams:

Woodinville (19-5) – Woodinville head coach Scott Bullock has been saying all year that he wants his team to peak at the right time. The way the Falcons have been playing of late, it looks like Bullock has gotten his wish. The Falcons have not lost since January 7th and have enough offensive tools to make a run to the title game.

Mt. Rainier (21-4) – The Rmas have won nine of their past ten games, with their only loss coming to fourth-ranked Federal Way. Brittany McPhee leads Mt. Rainier in scoring with 21 points per game.
