The Woodinville High School gymnastics team took the KingCo 4A Championships at Roosevelt High School in Sammamish Saturday, according to a story on The Seattle Times website.
Looking for their first state title since winning four straight 4A crowns 2007-10, the Falcons sophomore Emily Paratore came in first (36.325) with senior Madison Engel (35.575) finishing second and third in the all-around behind Candace Ho of Newport (36.525).
"We're really shooting for first at state," Woodinville coach Kim Smothermon told the Seattle Times, whose squad finished second to Mead of Spokane last year. "I think we've got a good chance as long as we keep fighting and work together as a team."
Smothermon told Patch previously, "As for why we are successful, I believe it is because we work as a team. They are there for each other."
She has been coaching gymnastics at both the interscholastic and club levels for 16 years.
