Woodinville Farmers Market Report: Raspberries, Blueberries and Blackberries, Oh My!

Berry season is in full swing at the Woodinville Farmers Market.

It’s berry season at the with raspberries still around and blueberries at their peak, there may even be some early blackberries available.

A down side of farm fresh berries is they mold quickly. Hayton Berry Farms, one of the big Washington State berry growers, posted this recipe Facebook for how to keep berried from molding:

Saving Berries From Molding

1 part vinegar (white or apple)

10 parts water

Dump the berries into the vinegar mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (although the mixture is so diluted you can't taste the vinegar) and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy or soft.

Youngquist Farms will be at the market on Saturday with blueberries, raspberries and maybe some early blackberries.

The  is on 133rd Ave. NE, right beside City Hall. The farmers market is Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Fall.
