Few things are as important to a child as their blanket. It provides warmth, comfort and a sense of home. This feeling is so universally understood that we even have a term for it that we even apply to other comforting things - the security blanket.
Some children don't have a blanket of their own, though, and this is especially sad when those children are at their most vulnerable, when they're sick, traumatized or going through the worst of experiences. For these children, Project Linus steps in and provides what help they can in the form of soft, new blankets made with love by volunteers.
On Sunday, Aug. 12, volunteers from the Seattle/King/Pierce County chapter of Project Linus will meet at to make new blankets and collect dontated blankets and materials. Anyone interested can stop by between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and help make a blanket, donate materials, or just help out in any way they can.
"It's the best feeling there is," said Linda Lane, president of the Seattle/King/Pierce County Project Linus chapter.
Lane said that though the work may be time consuming and demanding, it's all worth it when she gets feedback from the hospitals and shelters they donate to or thank you notes from the children who receive the blankets.
"That's what keeps you going," Lane said.
Lane estimates that in the six years she's been chapter president her chapter has donated over 24,000 blankets.
"Oh yeah, it's worth it," Lane said.
