Is We Day for You? If you believe in Gun control for citizens, but not for politicians, then thisRead More may be for you. If you believe Danny Glover, Al Gore, Harry Belafonte, Sean Penn, George Soros, The "Reverend" Jesse Jackson, Cherie Blair, etc. are noble representatives of your moral and political values, then this may be for you. If you believe that central planning and collectivism, is more important to a civil society than individual liberty and free markets, then this may be for you. If you believe that everyone is deserving of the same outcomes regardless of varying individual efforts, then this may be for you. if you believe Wikipedia doesn't have a hard-left bias, then this may be for you. If you believe that the Occupy movement is noble, and the Tea Party movement is not, then this may be for you. If your de facto reaction to a conflict is to side with the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, the PLO, "minorities", Palestenians, women, socialist leaders, labor leaders OVER christians, Israelis, men, conservatives, libertarians, "majorities", and business owners, then this may be for you. If you believe George Soros and any organization he fund is golden, then this may be for you. If you believe in open borders and that all ILLEGAL immigrants are victims of American society, and not their own choices, then this may be for you. If you believe that Hugo Chavez is a role model for preserving civil society, then this may be for you.

If only there were no hidden agendas, and the mission was to truly encourage critical thinking andRead More objectivity when pondering the origin of rights and responsibilities, and the elements of a civil society. I suspect not even 1% of the parents have a clue about much, if any of the underlying ideology behind this organization. While they do a good job of raising awareness about serious issues regarding hunger, poverty, health, etc., they're solutions tend towards an authoritarian central-planning requirement as evidenced by their strong reliance on UN, and socialist principles. It's almost fraudulent the way their "educational" materials promote this facade of critical thinking in the analysis of all issues, while guiding the students towards a pre-defined solution that fits the personal agendas of the founders and their cohorts. As far as i'm concerned this organization is 1 part social awareness and 3 parts socialist indoctrination.

I suppose we can deduce from these numbers that the decrease in teen depression and suicidalRead More ideation corresponds with an increase in smoking, drinking, using drugs, and having sex.
AC March 17, 2013 at 06:46 pm
It is interesting that 10th graders show higher rates of depression and suicidal thoughts than theRead More 12th graders. I wonder if that is usually the case or if it correlates with with some outside influence, such as war, 9/11 or economy, during an important milestone in their lives.

Good news about tobacco use. I do find it depressing that teens consider marijuana use less riskyRead More while thoughts of suicide are going up. Studies have shown a direct correlation of marijuana addiction to depression and suicide.

Social media spewed out 20 references to this guy. Research job applicants much Roosevelt? SuckeredRead More by a slick talking frat boy.

99% of coaches, teachers, and priests, are decent positive role models. The 1% get all theRead More publicity.

What's going on in our schools? When I was a kid (in the UK), the gym coaches wore tracksuits,Read More whistles and rarely conversed with the kids other than giving instructions. They were firm but fair. Seems nowadays anything's on the table. From dating students to being 'Friends' on Facebook. Meanwhile, both parents are 'busy' with work through the week and then make sure little Johnny's weekend is jam-packed with sporting events so that they don't have to think about 'family interactions' too much. It's a strange new world.

I'm fine with it. The ideological intransigence on matters of budget, taxation and spending leavesRead More little recourse for those that consider these items of national priority. I am saddened that political brinkmanship continues to wreak havoc on personal lives, and that so many citizens blame each other or the "other side" rather then hold all members of Congress and our President responsible for this ongoing failure of government to govern.

Fair enough, Edward. Dexterjibs' comments have disappeared from time to time, and you have observedRead More the reason why. We often give no warning for folks like that. I am also aware of what a "troll" is in online parlance, thanks.
Edward A. January 20, 2013 at 06:47 pm
Also, check out dexterjib's comment history if you want to see what abusive behavior is.Read More "Trent is a very delicate, sensitive guy. I am surprised he is married to a lady." "You again, Joe H, geez you are like a little gnat" "Sounds like you are a sensitive little guy, Trent, so i want call you names." "Sorry Joe, i am not a gullible fool like you." ...ad nauseum. It irritates me that I got a public warning for calling an obvious troll a troll, while the troll gets a pass.

Dexterjibs, you presume far too much -- you haven't gotten under my skin. I was simply observingRead More that your goal seems to be to provoke others without making substantive arguments. And I will have a nice day.

Way to go, Northshore! Titans Rule! All Northwest, wow; what an honor. Was at All Northwest inRead More Spokane in the spring of 1961. Still one of my fondest memories of A. C. Davis High School music dept. You're going to have a ball. Congratulations to you all.

We reap what we sow as a society...We desensitize our kids by letting them play shoot ‘em upRead More games for entertainment, or watching ‘raw’ TV, and when they can't sleep at night or develop behavior issues we put them on anti-depressant drugs which only make matters worse... (There is a direct correlation here between these drugs and suicidal rates, check it out!) It is time to wake up and start acting like responsible parents and teaching our kids how to be useful citizens and leaders in a changing world.
